Proprietor
Your host at
Hale Ohia is Michael Tuttle, a Kentucky native. As you might imagine, the road from
Lexington to the Big Island was a winding one. With a degree in Architecture, Michael has
been involved in the construction and real estate business, having renovated and saved
several historic buildings in the Lexington area.
A detour into the food service industry lead to opening a restaurant,
working as a private chef on a thoroughbred horse farm and the position
of Food Director for a retirement community. There, the residents
convinced Michael to follow his dream and move to Hawaii. At the suggestion
of a friend, he visited Volcano Village to view the Hale Ohia property.
As soon as he drove up the drive, Michael knew it was the place for
him.
Now in his 17th year, Michael resides with Dixon (a stray ginger
cat), who is the undisputed master of Hale Ohia.
